Back in the day if someone got sick it was quite natural for you to die within the fortnight or to survive and carry the effects forever. It wasn’t until 1928 that Sir Alexander Fleming had inadvertently discovered that the staph bacteria wouldn’t grow in an area that around a fungal growth. Specifically, pencillium chrysogenum mold—the same that makes brie cheese. The discovery of penicillin allowed for the swift curing of staph infections and other serious illnesses.

Electricity

In 1821, Michael Faraday discovered something that completely revolutionized the world. He had someone discovered the first ever electric motor. His discovery directly led his other invention: the generator. This empowered more and more industries to leave behind coal and steam power. In today’s world, you would be hard pressed to find someone who does not make use of electricity in their everyday lives.

The Rosetta Stone

For the longest time, people didn’t really know how to communicate with each other as they all spoke different languages. Even the way they wrote things down were completely different from one nation to the next. This was particularly true when it came to Ancient Egyptian text. It was generally believed that no one would be able to understand it ever again. However, when Lt. Pierre-Francois Bouchard found a slab of stone which was the key to understanding Egyptian Hieroglyphs, it provided such a clear glimpse into an amazing past. It also allowed us to reclaim technology which the Egyptians found before.
